Kelsey Asbille is played Luke Grimes‘ on-screen wife, Monica, to Yellowstone – but where is the actor now amid Kayce Dutton’s exit, The Marshals?
Before booking Monica’s place YellowstoneAsbille started on Disney as Mikayla Two kings. She also had a recurring role as Gigi One Tree Hill before landing the role of Tracy on MTV Youth Wolf from 2015 to 2016.
Asbille crossed paths with the producer Taylor Sheridan on the set of his film Wind Riverwhich paved the way for her role as Monica Long Dutton Yellowstone. In the show’s five seasons, Asbille shared scenes with Grimes – who played her on-screen husband, Kayce – and the rest of the fictional Dutton family.

Who did Kelsey Asbille play in ‘Yellowstone’?
Asbille worked with Sheridan in his 2017 film, Wind Riverabout a homicide on the Wind River Indian reservation. They met again Yellowstone in which Asbille starred as Monica Long Dutton – a role she played throughout the show from 2018 to 2024.
“I love the people we’re going to work with on the show,” he told Taste of Country in 2022 while thanking Sheridan for creating a great culture on set. “I really like these people, and I think also because you always – you bring us back.”
He continued: “There’s a certain sincerity and a family quality to all of his sets that, even though we’re talking about a very difficult subject, we’re in it together.
Why Was There Controversy Surrounding Kelsey Asbille’s Role in ‘Yellowstone’?
Asbille revealed that she is of Cherokee descent during her role as Monica, who is a Native American.
“This role, more than any other, is in my blood,” he said The New York Times in 2017, which prompted actor and producer Sonny Skyhawk to inquire with the Cherokee Nation Registration Office about Asbille, who said they had no record of Asbille and could not confirm that he was of Cherokee ancestry.

What was Kelsey Asbille doing after ‘Yellowstone’?
Asbille booked the lead role in the Netflix film Don’t move aside Finn Wittrock. He also had a recurring role in season 4 of Fargo.
Previously, the actor has not posted on social media since then Yellowstoneseries finale, and his latest post read, “One episode left. Sharing the screen with Luke for the past 7 years has been such a dream.”
Deadline confirmed in June 2026 that Asbille will star opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Liam Hemsworth in The Kellys. The action film has been acquired by Amazon MGM for worldwide release but character details are being kept under wraps.

Grimes, on the other hand, has shown support for a spinoff focusing on the fictional couple.
“[Kelsey and I] keep saying if Taylor calls and it’s something he wants to do and it’s something he wants to write, we’d totally agree,” he said.

Based on promotional material for Grimes’ show The MarshalsMonica is probably killed before the events of the pilot. He doesn’t appear in any of the footage, and there are plenty of hints that Kayce and his son are dealing with personal loss when the show begins.
Grimes remains tight-lipped about how The Marshals he will talk about his personal life.
“We really wanted to make sure that we gave it a real story and made it interesting and made it believable,” Grimes shared in June 2025 to People about Marshals. “If it was like, ‘Well, he’s happy’ – we’re just going to see him happy? That’s not fair at all. But I will say this, the idea that was given to me is very good and very interesting and it really engaged me and I think it will engage the audience as well.”
He continued: “There will be some familiar faces. There will be a lot of new faces, so we’ll see how it all feels. Going back to them in a new environment will be [a] a kind of revolution.”
Asbille has not commented on his possible involvement The Marshals.
