Tim Allen frankly measured by his age gap romance Jenna Elfman to Changing Gears – and remember what concerns he had in the beginning about the fictitious relationship.
“The age difference is not much different than mine and my wife’s,” said Allen, 72, who is married to a wife Jane Hajduk since 2006, it has been shared exclusively Us WeeklyLatest cover story.
Allen noted that his response to the age gap varies, adding, “It depends on the pictures. It scares me at certain ages. [and] we are on that border. If Jenna doesn’t look super cute then our age gap isn’t that big. I just let my hair go natural and she just looks – especially on camera – so young. “
The actress could see the difference when watching Matt and Eva’s scenes.
“They say the better you look and I say, ‘The better I look, the better I look 68,'” he laughed. “I just don’t want to panic about it — and that’s kind of a borderline image these days.”
Allen continued, “It hasn’t really come out yet — unless they’re making jokes about, ‘Well, a boy your age.’ If they make fun of it, I don’t like it. But I said, ‘Accepting what is there.’ There are times – and I will give them – to light up well and wear the right clothes so as not to look nervous. “
Changing Gears introduced fans to Matt and Eve’s romance in season 1. The two dated for the entire second season before calling it quits due to long distance. Matt and Eve – who have an age gap – find their way back to each other before season 2 ends.
“Our runner [Michelle Nader] put this thing together and they are very romantic. I wanted a widow’s car show to deal with the grief. That’s what I wanted,” Allen said Us. “I liked it Kat Dennings [as my daughter] because you are a good choice. That old dynamic is where I was. “
Allen chose to go with her when Elfman’s character was introduced, saying, “They put this romance in and I know Jenna so I said, ‘That’s not the problem. It’s just that I feel too old for her.’ Sometimes they say, ‘What you see is not what you think it is.’
After seeing acceptance in the relationship, Allen is interested to see where the show takes the characters next.
“It’s really fun to have him and it brings out a completely different side of that show and brings a different audience to that show,” he continued. “I’m really out there guys and I’m making sure the car stuff is fun and exciting. Then the office is cool and now you have the love of the people who want that. Because it turns out that the flirting and the real work between these two characters is working and I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ll go there.’ [Jenna is] it’s really good at this and love is made by mistake.”
Allen promised that season 3 will continue to focus on Matt and Eve.
“My question is – and we haven’t talked about it yet because we will start in late July to do our new season – will Jenna go with me or will I stay with her [on the show]? I don’t know,” he commented, “I’d like to extend it to where we just cooled off a little bit.”
He went on to say, “I said I didn’t see that it would come but.” [showrunner] Michelle [Nader] and his team surprised me again. I don’t feel good about it – because I’m a comedian – so I don’t know where this is going. It doesn’t matter, it works. It makes the dynamic sitcom a little more open, definitely. “
Allen’s return to the set will come after he ends his stint as the voice of Buzz Lightyear on. Play story 5.
“It’s an amazing part of my life,” Allen said of the role, which he created three decades earlier. “Buzz has become a part of me, and vice versa.”
Allen teased what fans can expect from the next chapter, which opens in theaters on June 19, “When we were making Toy Story 4, we said, ‘We need more buzz for this.’ I was playing, so it was a big surprise when I saw the message boards. I said, ‘Okay, take that seriously.'”
He concluded by saying, “It was a big challenge to be a lot of Buzzes [in a toy cargo container]then it became very confusing [as to] who’s talking to who, and I’m not exactly sure how they worked it out, but it was so funny to be a part of that. … Basically, it’s a story about an amazing friendship. Kids see it, and adults see it, and add a whole color palette and other toys, so it’s like a small community. I think [if it were with] stick numbers, will still be very popular.”
Changing Gears currently streaming on Hulu. Play story 5 will premiere in theaters on June 19.
