The Florida Panthers Have Many Irons in the Fire When It Comes to the Goaltending Market
Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta joined the Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Power Play segment with Craig Button and Steve Kouleas. There, he was asked about the status of the Florida Panthers player. Will they sign Sergei Bobrovsky or trade for Connor Hellebuyck, Jordan Binington or someone else?

NHL Rumors: Will Sergei Bobrovsky and Florida Panthers Make a Deal?
Steve Kouleas: “Florida, what’s going on in the Panthers crease? What’s option A? What’s option B? And is there option C? Dave, go.”
Dave Pagnotta: “They’re still standing, and talks are still going on with Sergey Bobrovski about wanting to sign him to a five- to six-year deal. I think the best thing for them is to get him about $4 million for that. I don’t get the sense that’s where they want to go, but they’re trying to close any gap they have in terms of AAV terms. The Florida Panthers, in terms of dollars themselves.
The backup plan, the guys still sound like they’re cheering for Connor Hellebuyck. There has been a lot of talk about that in the last few hours of trying to do that. Now, my guess – I don’t know this for sure – I heard the name of Eetu Eetu Luostarinen mentioned, and he earns about $3 billion. But my guess would be, if I’m Winnipeg, I’m emphasizing (Anton) Lundell, and Florida has been saying he doesn’t want to do it. I don’t know if there’s been a shift in mindset, but that’s just kind of where things are.

They don’t want to move him. Winnipeg might stress, could there be anything encountered in there in relation to it? But the talks also got involved in what a lot of people sold me about Hellebuyck and Florida, and if that doesn’t work out over Bobrovsky, there are a lot of guys out there in terms of the goaltending market.
Enter Jordan Binington. I’m sure they’re checking with the other guys about the market and where things might be. But this is the Florida Panthers and Bill Zito, you can’t count them out because they seem to find a way.”
NHLRumors.com Note: Trade winds swirl around Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets. Whether he has delivered the business or not will be discussed. But it’s clear the Florida Panthers scouted him and are still after him. There is a lot of smoke on Wednesday afternoon. However, Hellebuyck wants to go to the winner.
As far as Sergei Bobrovsky goes, GM Bill Zito hasn’t closed the door on bringing him back, but he needs more from the player side. It’s shocking that it hasn’t been done yet. But do you blame the Panthers for not wanting to commit more than four years to a goalie who will be 38 at the start of the season?
