Daveigh Chase’s Mother Breaks Silence After Child Star Dies

“I was devastated. It felt like something inside of me was taking all the air out of me, and at the same time, I felt like I was exploding,” said Cathy, who last saw Daveigh in 2019. Daily Mail in an interview published on Friday, June 19. “I issued this invitation and I just ran, and these strange sounds were coming out of me, like ancient sounds. I feel great pain but I hope that his soul heard me.”
Daveigh’s boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, announced on Wednesday, June 17, that the actor died one day earlier. He said Daviegh had meningitis and a virus in his blood that causes sepsis, a life-threatening disease that can cause organ failure.
A few days ago, Hernandez launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover Daveigh’s medical expenses.
“Daveigh was diagnosed with meningitis and several serious blood disorders. His condition is critical, and doctors have told me that he may not have much time left,” she wrote in a caption for the fundraiser. He just wanted a place to stay together, feel safe and happy. Now, more than ever, I want to give him that sense of home and peace in his last days.
Cathy, on the other hand, said to Daily Mail that he found out about Daveigh’s death in the media after years of asking about his daughter’s health.
“I just put his name in the investigator [search system] and see if his name came up and if anyone was with him somewhere,” Cathy recalled at the exit. “I was looking at their list of unidentified bodies. It was very difficult, but you do everything you can as a mother.”
According to Cathy, Daveigh allegedly had a problem with drug abuse after he injured his back in a motorcycle accident in 2016.
“He was looking for drugs and hanging out with the wrong people,” said Cathy. “I never sent my daughter away. She wanted freedom and these people yoked her to other drugs. That was the beginning.”
Cathy went on to say that she last saw Daveigh in October 2019.
“He was completely out of his mind. I thought there was something wrong with him,” Cathy said. “My daughter has never been diagnosed with a mental health condition other than PTSD, but the drugs took hold of her.”
Daveigh is survived by his parents, brother and boyfriend. Cathy also helped with identification Donnie Darko actor’s body earlier this week.
“[The hospital chaplain and I] they can lay hands and pray,” said Cathy Daily Mail. “Actually, we were touching the glass, but it was as close as possible, so we were able to lay hands on him and pray for him.” It was a great experience, too, and I feel very blessed, too, to be able to share that with my daughter.”
