Cristian Romero Criticized Donald Trump’s Handshake at the World Cup Final
Argentine soccer player Cristian Romero he seemed to despise the President Donald Trumphandshake at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
During the awards ceremony, where FIFA officials awarded silver medals to Argentina’s players following their 1-0 defeat to Spain, Romero, 28, was seen walking past the 80-year-old president, who was tasked with handing out medals to players from both teams.
However, the defender shakes hands with the FIFA president, Gianni Infantinoand the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumwho stood on both sides of Trump.
Photos shared by X after the award ceremony wrapped on air clearly showed Romero glancing briefly at Trump before looking away and holding his award as he walked away.
The seemingly ill-advised move comes after the US president met a large crowd before the much-anticipated finals began. After a few seconds Jennifer Hudson singing the national anthem, Trump was filmed clapping while standing in his own section of MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
As the camera revealed Trump’s stance, an audible gasp was heard. Trump attended the tournament with his wife, Melania Trumpand watched the game with Infantino, 56.
