When it comes to raising a newborn, it’s the Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and a football star Mallory Swanson make one winning team.
“Being able to do it together is really important. Obviously we’ve always talked about having a family, and now we have one,” Dansby, 32, shared exclusively. Us Weekly while partnering with Buffalo Wild Wings and Pepsi. “It’s just cool. It’s amazing to see little Mal, you know?”
In November 2025, Dansby and Mallory’s lives changed forever there you are welcome a baby girl named Josie James Swanson.
Since the arrival of their daughter, the couple say their relationship has grown significantly with sleepless nights, diaper changes, baby milestones and unexpected plans.
“I think having a child is a wonderful thing, and it’s the best thing ever because you can do it with your partner and you see the changes that happen,” Mallory, 28, shared. Us. “Just being able to share those moments together was great.”

Courtesy of Mallory SwansonAlthough the couple admits their work commitments keep their schedules full — Dansby and the Chicago Cubs play 162 games in one season, while Mallory is a member of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team — their quality time is appreciated.
In the middle Father’s Day Over the weekend, a baseball rainout allowed Dansby to celebrate with his wife and daughter longer than expected.
“I think the biggest thing for us is to be intentional about the time we get together and enjoy it and be grateful for it,” Dansby said. Us. “I think we’re doing a really good job with it.”
Along the way, the couple – who founded the Purpose and Basis of Calling to help empower and support children’s well-being — relying on their faith to keep their family strong and united.
“All the blessings we have come from God,” Dansby said. “I mean the miracle that Josie is. Bringing new life into this world. If you didn’t believe in God before, just watch what it does to you when you have a child. … It happens from time to time when we pray together before going to bed, we pray for Josie, we are determined to try to follow and listen to what we feel God has called us to do.”

Mallory added, “I know, for me – and I’m sure for Dansby as well – I think without our faith, I don’t know where we would be. It’s very, very important to us.”

“Growing up, I went to the Buffalo Wild Wings with my football team all the time,” Mallory recalled. “Dansby and I watch sports at our house all the time, so I think for us, it was a great opportunity to partner with them. You can go to Buffalo Wild Wings, watch the games, get a Pick 6 meal for two and it just seemed like a great opportunity and you’re working together.”
