The Brewers face the Reds in the NL Central for a clash with two unexpected starters on the mound for both sides.

I also got hit with making the wrong choice for part of the game, but the right choice for the full game. I’m not sure why this happens so often this year — more than any other year I’ve had — but I’ve had a lot of first five game losses while the team I picked won a full game, or vice versa. Let’s try to win here as the Brewers take on the Reds.

The Milwaukee Brewers are still the top team in the National League Central. Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but this team is almost 20 games over .500 and out of the pack. Most of the division was over .500 this season, but the Brewers found a way to emerge and look like the favorite to win the division again. It will be interesting to see if they make any kind of move at the trade deadline. They have never been known for that, but eventually they need to push their chips into the middle of the table and hope for a proper season.

Being eliminated from the playoffs without really making a World Series push is kind of the way the Brewers are, so something has to change. The team will likely need another arm, and they may find one in mentoring today’s starter Shane Drohan. He has started five games this season and has completed six innings only once. He has been all over the place with his performances this season. That makes him very difficult to predict and trust. He has never faced a Reds striker.

The Cincinnati Reds are under .500 and will likely bounce back and forth from that mark throughout the season. I think the goal has always been to make the playoffs with a Wild Card spot. This team has some great pieces, but I feel like it’s not fully assembled. They don’t hit very well as a team, with a batting average of just .225. I think that shows they need a bat, but I also think they could use an arm, given their team ERA is 4.49. There is much more help available, however.

Their standing today depends on the success of Rhett Lowder. He is 3-4 this season with a 4.82 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. He was better at home. He has a 3.22 ERA, but that’s only in four starts. He didn’t get into the games much. In 11 games, he has gone six or more innings just three times. There was an injury that kept him out of action between May and June. He didn’t have to face the Brewers this season, but he held them to just one hit in eight at-bats in his career.

This is a tougher game to choose from than at the height. You know the best team is Milwaukee, but that doesn’t mean the team will always win. My best advice about the theme would be to stay away from it. There is a real chance that both teams can stir their opposing pot. On the other hand, the weather won’t be good, and both starters can wander the plans.

The better bullpen belongs to the Brewers, which is why I think you should cut this down to five innings if you want the Reds. I feel like there is more benefit to the Reds. This won’t be an easy bet to follow, but the Reds have a reasonable starter at home, and I don’t believe in Drohan. I gave the Reds five innings.
