Ex-Democratic fundraiser says party leaders covered up Biden’s mental decline

Lindy Li, the former Democratic Alliance fundraiser who switched organizations because of ignored warning signs about President Joe Biden’s 2024 presidential run, is revealing new details about the red flags the party waved.
“Whatever it was, it wasn’t true. They wanted him gone, and in my book, I’m going to be telling people exactly who knew about Biden’s mental decline but pretended otherwise,” Li told Fox News Digital during a phone interview.
Li, who is publishing a new book titled “Unburdened” later this year, adds to the picture of internal discussions, research, and fear behind the Democratic Party, which shows that Biden enjoyed shaky support even among his own camp long before he exited the 2024 election.
Most of all, Li said he was shocked by some of the party’s top officials, who behind the scenes, expressed doubts about Biden’s decline but, publicly, remained staunch defenders of the president.

“I remember getting a text from Schiff,” Li said, referring to Adam Schiff, D-Calif., then the Democratic candidate for the Senate and the top Democrat in the House of Representatives.
“I have it in my book. Basically, Adam Schiff was – I don’t remember what he said on TV, but I can tell you right now that behind the scenes he wanted a lot. [Biden] walking.”
Schiff’s spokesman responded to Li’s comments, noting that the senator made his doubts about Biden public after the 2024 debate in which the president stumbled over his words, lost his thoughts and spoke in a whisper, at times, difficult to understand. He finally asked Biden to step aside about a month ago in July.
“The senator’s concern about asking President Biden not to run was public, so none of this is news,” the spokesperson said.
But even more than Schiff, Li, who ran the party’s hard-earned fundraising work and is connected to a wide range of its figures, said many people who were hesitant about Biden’s cognitive skills were afraid to get involved in his political approach.

“They didn’t want to be discriminated against by the group. It’s like an axiom: you come to the king; you better not miss it. Everyone would have missed it,” said Li.
Li said the fear was reinforced by an internal survey conducted by the party, which showed that no one else in the party had the capital to challenge Biden.
“There are many candidates who opposed Biden and realized that they could not defeat him in the primary. It was not a matter of opposing Trump. It was self-centered,” said Li.
“I saw the polling data, and I put that in my book – polling that no one has seen before.”
Li said the internal discussion also revealed that Harris is not considered the strongest candidate to take on Biden’s mantle.
“He was the weakest person in the industry,” Li said.
“And I have polling data right before Kamala came up. We stacked her against Buttigieg, Newsom, Shapiro, Whitmer — all of them,” Li said, referring to a handful of other key figures in the Democratic Party.
Along with the fear of following Biden and coming up short, Li said he believes the Bidens — especially Joe Biden — have instilled a sense of loyalty in those around him that was hard to shake.

“He’s had decades of loyalty — his relationships with people like James Clyburn,” Li explained, referring to a senior Biden ally who helped guide the party for decades.
“There’s something about Joe Biden. He was incredibly kind,” Li said.
